Everton transfer news as Frank Lampard wants Michail Antonio from West Ham United

Everton want to sign West Ham United striker Michail Antonio as Frank Lampard looks to bolster his attacking options this January, according to talkSPORT.

The Hammers forward, 32, has just 18 months of his contract remaining at the London Stadium and is believed to be open to an exit from the club after struggling for minutes so far this season.

Lampard’s side have scored a mere 15 goals from their 19 Premier League games so far this season and are now looking towards Antonio as a potential antidote to this problem.

TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook wrote: “Everton are ready to turn to West Ham striker Michail Antonio to rescue their sorry season.

“TalkSPORT understand the Hammers are open to offers for Antonio, 32, if they can sign a replacement.

“That has alerted Everton boss Frank Lampard, whose side are in desperate need of extra firepower after plummeting into the relegation places.”

The potential signing of Antonio is an interesting prospect. He has obviously proven himself to be a brilliant striker in the past, netting ten goals last season and a further ten the campaign before, but he has struggled to find his best form this term.

Whether this is because he hasn’t been given a consistent run of games is questionable, but the summer signing of Gianluca Scamacca has pushed him down the pecking order in East London and resigned him to a spot on the bench most weeks.

If the Hammers do grant his exit, Everton would be foolish to turn down the chance to sign him. The striker is exactly the kind of signing who could grab five goals in the second half of this season and help Everton win some huge matches.

The club need options desperately, and Antonio could be the man to fire them away from the Premier League relegation zone if they get the deal over the line.
