Manchester United to make loan decision on Anthony Elanga ‘in the coming days’ amid Everton transfer interest – Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United are set to make a decision on Anthony Elanga’s future “in the coming days” with Everton pushing for a deal, says Fabrizio Romano.

The Toffees are keen to bolster their attacking options during the winter transfer window and have identified the Sweden international as a prime target as he can play up front and one the wings.

But with United not wanting to let him leave without replacing him first, they are set to make a decision in the comings days about the future of Elanga and Facundo Pellistri, which could allow Everton to swoop in.

“There’s also Anthony Elanga – English clubs, including Everton and clubs from other leagues, are exploring a loan deal,” he wrote on his Caught Offside substack (16 January).

“United will make a decision together with Erik ten Hag, so in the coming days we should see what will happen with Pellistri and Elanga.”

Needed

Everton are desperate for bolstered options in attack, and while Elanga may not be the answer on his own, bringing him in would definitely make us stronger.

As it stands none of our forwards are capable of scoring goals regularly, and Elanga hasn’t got a record that fills us with confidence that he could change that.

However coming from a top side and with a chip on his shoulder, as well as a pedigree to run in behind, work hard off the ball and score goals in big games, there is every chance he could make a positive difference.

We would need more than just him, despite the Manchester Evening News branding him as “outstanding” recently, but it would be a good start.

We’re over halfway through the window and nothing has happened, so this would be encouraging and at least give fans some hope that the club are working behind the scenes to turn our fortunes around.
