Chris Sutton: Frank Lampard is on the brink of Everton sack in Premier League
Chris Sutton believes Frank Lampard is “on the brink” at Everton and called for the Toffees to stand up and be counted for in the Daily Mail, 17 January, pg 64.
Lampard and the Blues slumped further down the Premier League table after a woeful 2-1 defeat to Southampton at Goodison Park on 14 January.
Sutton confessed that he wants to see more from the Everton players and for them to show to the fans that they are fit to wear the shirt.

“Lads, where to begin? The good news is it can only get better. The bad news is that’s because it can hardly get worse,” said Sutton (Daily Mail, 17 January, pg 64)
“The board are the main focus of the fans’ anger, but every member of this team needs to show you are fit to wear the shirt. Anthony Gordon, where’s the talent that attracted £60million bid from Chelsea? You came off the bench against Southampton then gifted James Ward Prowse the chance to score that winning free-kick at Goodison Park.
“I want to see more from you and everyone else. Frank Lampard is on the brink. I’m surprised he’s lasted this long. It’s time you stood up and were counted.”

Messy.
From Lampard to the board, to the team, nothing is going right at Goodison Park right now and the ugly scenes that erupted after the Southampton game all but confirmed this.
Board members being sent death threats and being unable to turn up to games is simply going one step too far and there is no need for such behaviour from a top-flight club.
Hopefully, whoever was responsible for the messages gets their deserved punishment, this terrible kind of behaviour should never be tolerated.
Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright haven’t run the club well in recent years, everyone can agree on that and this is starting to translate to results on the pitch.
Moshiri opting to go on national radio and blame fans for his and the board’s mistakes was simply wrong and foolish.
It arguably summed up his rein at the Blues pretty well, out of touch and unable to own up for his own mistakes, something needs to change soon.
