Everton and Aston Villa in race to sign Lyon forward Moussa Dembele

Everton are reportedly going to be battled by Aston Villa to secure the services of Lyon striker Moussa Dembele in the January transfer window.

According to Foot Mercato [19 January], the Toffees enquired about him last summer and their approaches were turned down by the French side.

However, they’re still keen on his services but will now be rivalled by Aston Villa this window.

Battle heats up

We can understand why Villa are now going to go all out in the hunt to sign a new striker.

They have sold Danny Ings to West Ham and while they’ve got Ollie Watkins as their main number nine, he is capable of playing on the flank as well.

A striker like Dembele could be extremely crucial for them and make their attack more fluid and he can do the same at Everton as well.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is very one dimensional and does not drift too far beyond the width of the 18-yard area.

While that may be good when players around you are creating loads, it does not work when most of them aren’t on the same page.

Dembele’s addition can solve that issue and hopefully, Everton purse his services until possible as he would be a solid acquisition for the Toffees.

As his contract is expiring in the summer, the Toffees also have the option of getting him to sign a pre-contract arrangement and signing him for free in the summer.
