Everton face ‘Astronomical’ problem in case they suffer relegation from Premier League
Everton will reportedly have an “astronomical” wage bill for Championship standards in case they get relegated from the Premier League.
According to the Liverpool Echo [19 January], that is because they do not have relegation clauses attached to the contracts of most players.
With these clauses, players have a per cent of their wages docked as being part of the side that ended up getting relegated in the first place.

Big problem
Parachute payments are there for exactly these situations but even they’ve got their limitations.
Clubs that have players on really high wages have to part ways with a few of them on occasion and that can sometimes be devastating for them.
Usually, the following season after their relegation, they’re expected to bounce back and return to the top flight.
However, that does not always happen and is often easier said than done.

Everton do have a quality side but there remain doubts about whether the likes of Jordan Pickford, Anthony Gordon and Dominic Calvert-Lewin would want to play second-tier football.
Even Amadou Onana and Dwight McNeil were coveted players before moving to Goodison Park and could be on their way out too.
The club are in a serious mess and do need a miracle from somewhere to get out of it as soon as possible.
