Newcastle United set to make transfer enquiry for Everton star Anthony Gordon
Newcastle United are set to make a transfer enquiry for Everton star Anthony Gordon this month, according to the Daily Mail on Friday 20 January.
The Magpies are set to test Frank Lampard and the Toffees’ resolve for the talented youngster who has attracted interest from Tottenham and Chelsea in the past.
Now, the Daily Mail is reporting that Gordon is “high” on Newcastle’s list but the fee the Blues may demand a fee that could prove to be “prohibitive” in making a transfer happen.

“Newcastle are set to tempt Everton’s resolve with an enquiry for winger Anthony Gordon and are in talks over a deal for Flamengo teenager Matheus Franca,” as quoted by the Daily Mail. (20 January)
“Gordon, 21, is high on their list and, while it is expected Everton will demand a fee that could prove prohibitive, Newcastle will nonetheless test the waters.
“Sources on Merseyside, however, believe there is more chance of the Toffees doing a deal now than there was in the summer, when they quoted Newcastle and Chelsea an asking price of £50million.
“Gordon has fallen a little out of favour at Goodison Park amid the team’s recent struggles.”

Cash in.
If financial troubles are stopping the Toffees from making signings they desperately need in January, then cashing in on Gordon for a decent sum makes sense.
The youngster just doesn’t seem up for another relegation scrap as things stand and it looks like his head and heart had already left the club this summer.
This is fair enough, it’s tough for a youngster to ignore the glitz and glamour of a team higher up in the Premier League, one that could potentially offer him Champions League football next season.
And there are more pressing areas of concern for Everton right now, the club needs a proven poacher who can score goals, not a sulky teenager who comes and goes when he pleases.
Everton should have let Gordon leave for the stupid fee Chelsea were willing to bid in the summer, something which many fans have been left baffled by recently.
£50m+ for a player who has had one good Premier League season is a fantastic deal and the Blues would be foolish not to pursue it.
