Finance Guru: Questions will be asked as Farhad Moshiri speaks out on new Everton stadium

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...

Dan Plumley has insisted that it may have become clear this week why Farhad Moshiri has been pushing so hard for extra Everton investment for the Bramley-Moore Dock stadium.

Speaking out on talkSPORT, Moshiri shared that the new stadium will cost up to £760million, way more than the initial figure that was quoted at just above £500million.

Finance Expert, Plumley, admitted that new stadiums always go over budget, questioning why anyone came out in the first place to release figures.

“The numbers stack up,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“There is an element in this around why he has been pushing so hard for extra investment. I’m never sure why people report these figures.

“We know that stadiums always go over budget, so the problem here is that categorically coming out and saying it’s £500million and won’t be more, that’s all well and good but we know these things go over budget and that’s when people start asking questions around what’s going on, so no surprise to see it go over budget.

“It stacks up as to why he has been pushing for extra investment in terms of the stadium.”

It has been yet another car crash week for Everton.

Moshiri has been at the centre of that as well, in what will be no surprise whatsoever to those who are close to the club and go watch them every single week.

The new stadium has taken a back seat in recent weeks, with results going from bad to worst, something that will need to change very soon or Championship football will become a new reality.
