Newcastle United sense Everton could be willing to sanction exit deal for Anthony Gordon

Newcastle United sense that there could be a willingness from Everton to deal for winger Anthony Gordon, according to a report from The Daily Mail.

The Magpies, who have jumped into the top 20 rich clubs in 2023 [Deloitte], are considering making a fresh approach for the 21-year-old this month, and The Mail (20 January, page 75) reports that they have revived interest.

Everton had set a £50m+ valuation on the player in the summer and had enquiries from Chelsea and Tottenham. The Toffees need to sell before they can buy, and thus Gordon could be on the market.

Unlikely

Gordon hasn’t been in the best of form but he is an asset to the club.

After making an encouraging start to the season, the youngster has looked flat in recent months.

He has managed just three goals in 16 games and hasn’t been able to make the impact that we all expect from him.

It is true that the Toffees are operating on a tight budget, and they may need to sell some of their top players to buy again, but whether they would be willing to sell Gordon now is a big question.

The Toffees are 19th in the league table at the moment, and Lampard wants his best players to help him get out of this mess.

Losing Gordon now or towards the end of the window could disrupt his plans, as the Toffees may run out of time to bring in an adequate replacement.

The club revisit their stance in the summer, but losing Gordon now would be a terrible blow, even though he has badly underperformed.
