Graeme Souness: Frank Lampard one game from sack at Everton, he will feel abandoned

Graeme Souness believes Frank Lampard is one game away from being sacked at Everton and the former Chelsea boss has a right to be angry.

It’s crunch time for the Blues boss and it doesn’t get much bigger than a relegation Premier League showdown against West Ham United on 21 January.

Souness confessed that the “vibes” at Everton must be negative and he has a feeling that the end is nigh for Lampard on Merseyside.

“When you hear a manager say, ‘I’m not going to resign’ that he is putting down a marker to the decision makers,” said Souness in his column for the Daily Mail, Jan 21, pg. 113.

“It tells you that the vibes within the club are negative and they know the end is nigh. They want out but will not be leaving empty-handed. They feel they’ve been treated unfairly and the job description is not what they were sold on day one.

“Frank has every right to feel angry in that regard.

“It still feels like Frank is one game away from losing his job.”

Everton

Crunch time.

It’s crunch time on Merseyside for Lampard and a failure to beat West Ham United could ultimately spell the end of his time at Goodison Park.

But who then? Who can come in and sort this mess out and save the club from impending relegation? It’s not a job for the faint-hearted.

To say Lampard has been abandoned at the Blues is a bit of a stretch, the Englishman has had more than enough time to imprint his ideas on this team.

He was also backed in the summer transfer market to an extent, but the club’s failure to sign him a replacement for Richarlison may prove costly.

Nevertheless, now it looks like the club are finally trying to rectify that decision after it was revealed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on 21 January that a deal for Arnaut Danjuma is almost complete.

Too little, too late? Some will argue that the Danjuma deal should have been completed weeks ago and they wouldn’t be wrong but at least it’s over the line now.
