Michael Owen delivers Frank Lampard sack verdict after Everton loss v West Ham

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen believes that the loss against West Ham was the final nail in the coffin for Frank Lampard at Everton.

The Toffees were outplayed at the London Stadium on 21 January and suffered a dismal 2-0 defeat against their fellow relegation contenders.

Owen believes that the board may decide to sack him and the only thing that’ll keep him in the job is the fans’ outrage towards the board.

Speaking on Premier League Production’s post-match show, Owen said, [21/01, 17:14], “That was the nail in the coffin.

“The one thing that could save him are the circumstances that the fans are anti the board. It’s almost the only thing that ensures Lampard might get away. He might not but that’s the only thing.”

He’s got to go

Lampard cannot really help himself with results and performances like this one and he’s only dug himself a deeper hole.

It was a comprehensive defeat on xG and it certainly was one on the field of play as well with the Toffees having absolutely no chance of getting it right.

We cannot see a way back for the Toffees manager after a performance like this and Owen is absolutely spot on about this.

The only thing that can save him is the fans being against the board and it’s never been this bad with the Everton fanbase bow wanting Farhad Moshiri gone as soon as possible.

We’re hoping that something changes but do not have too many hopes from the Toffees management to take the decisive steps.

However, one thing that they care about is their money and relegation would be a big financial blow so they certainly will look for a change if that threat seems realistic
