Newcastle United to test Everton resolve for Anthony Gordon this week
Everton are set to face continued interest in winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle this week, according to the Daily Mail on Saturday 21 January.
The Toffees have beat away interest from the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea in the past [talkSPORT, 6 November] but are set to have their resolve tested by the extremely wealthy Magpies in the coming days.
Gordon, 21, hasn’t lived up to his lofty expectations so far this term, having netted just three goals from 16 appearances, but his exit could prove a crucial moment in Frank Lampard’s fight against relegation.

Everton currently sit in the Premier League relegation zone, with 15 points at the halfway stage of the season and face a crucial game against West Ham on Saturday afternoon (21 January).
Now, the Daily Mail is reporting a deal could be forced through in the coming days as both sides look to necessary changes to their squads during the winter window.
“Newcastle are to test Everton’s resolves to keep Anthony Gordon this week,” the Daily Mail reported (Saturday 21 January, page 109).

Pivotal
It seems as though Lampard has had his hands tied behind his back so far this transfer window, with funds low but his need for recruitment immense.
The Toffees boss has a number of glaring holes in his first-team squad, but he doesn’t seem to have the funds to reinvest where deemed necessary, so selling Gordon might be forced upon him.
If the club were to sell the 21-year-old, they could use the funds gathered to sign a viable replacement for a lower price, as well as investing elsewhere in the squad.
The agreement reached for Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma [Fabrizio Romano, Saturday 21 January] could hint towards Gordon’s exit in the coming days, which will come as a blow to fans.
Gordon has put his heart into the club, but after keeping hold of their prized asset in the summer, it could finally be his time to depart this month.
