Everton: Journalist shares what friends of Wayne Rooney say as Goodison speculation emerges
Everton legend Wayne Rooney is focused on his job at DC United, despite speculation he is a leading contender to take the Toffees job should Frank Lampard be sacked, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
Lampard has endured a tumultuous season at the helm at Goodison Park, with the Blues currently sitting in the relegation zone once again with just 15 points from 20 Premier League games.
And the Chelsea legend’s future on Merseyside has been called into question, with Rooney a favourite [Daily Express, 4 January] to replace him as Everton boss should he be sacked.

And Nixon, writing on his Patreon page [22 January] has said that despite being linked with the Toffees, the Manchester United legend is revved up about a big season ahead for DC United following a slow start.
However, he goes on to state that Rooney’s contract at the club is up at the end of the MLS season, and his friends say he was disappointed to depart Derby County, with a potential return to British football on the cards.
Unlikely
Despite his relegation at Derby County, Rooney made a lot of impact at Pride Park for his persona, managerial style and leadership but amidst all that, he was the victim of poor management from those above him, with the administration and points deduction out of his control.
While he may be an attractive proposition to replace Lampard, it’s unlikely the former Manchester United and England star will be wanting the follow the same unfortunate pattern of working under an incompetent board and ownership.

Farhad Moshiri has appointed so many managers to try and steady the Toffees ship but all of them have unfortunately failed which shows a damaging pattern emerging that he is at fault for the club’s demise.
If Lampard, Benitez and Ancelotti all struggled to drag the club out of the mire, what makes people think Rooney would? He would certainly want a settled and stable club, one which provides him with the room and resources to work his magic.
That club certainly won’t be Everton unless things drastically change within the hierarchy.
