Everton to pay ‘huge’ Arnaut Danjuma fee as £100,000-a-week contract emerges, Anthony Gordon move to Tottenham now on

Everton are on the verge of signing Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal – and it could mean Anthony Gordon leaves Goodison Park for either Newcastle or Tottenham, according to Alan Nixon.

Writing via his Patreon on Sunday (22 January), the newspaper journalist reported that the Blues are ready to pay a “huge” loan fee to Villarreal to complete the singing of 25-year-old Danjuma.

It is understood that the Merseysiders will pay a guaranteed £2.5million but that fee could double if the Netherlands international reaches enough appearances.

Nixon adds that Everton will pay £100,000-a-week for Danjuma’s wages and signing the ex-Bournemouth forward could see Gordon “sold to Newcastle or even Tottenham”.

A lot of money

While Danjuma only seems to be signing on loan without the option for a permanent deal, it’s very expensive loan and one that will take a huge whack out of the club’s bank account.

If he signs now and his loan contract runs up until the end of June, it means he’ll be paid £2.2million in wages.

And if the £2.5million loan fee doubles to £5million – it means Everton will end up paying roughly £7.2million for a player to have for just half of a season.

If Danjuma can play well enough to keep us up then it’s worth it.

But even loan signings aren’t cheap and in this case, could be viewed as seriously reckless.

Gordon is already at Goodison Park and while he’s not playing well, it could be better to stick with him than find a replacement who may struggle to hit the ground running in the Premier League.

It’s a massive risk and possibly one that isn’t worth taking when Gordon’s form could be reinvigorated by the appointment of a new manager.
