Justin Allen rages over Everton players 'disgrace' after what they did to fans at full-time v West Ham United
Justin Allen is furious with the Everton squad after just a handful of players bothered thanking the fans at the end of the 2-0 defeat to West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday.
Frank Lampard’s job now seems to be hanging by a thread with the Blues two points from safety and their goal difference being the only thing keeping them from being bottom of the Premier League table.
After the game, newspaper columnist Allen noticed how most of the Everton squad disappeared down the tunnel at the London Stadium instead of heading to the away fans.
He’s furious with the lack of humility shown by the squad, except for a select bunch.
Allen, writing on Twitter on Saturday (21 January), said: “What a disgrace that only five, maybe six, Everton players have bothered to acknowledge their fans at the end.
“Can’t see Frank Lampard surviving now.”
Why would they?
While we’re totally aware that it’s just a minority of fans doing it but why on earth would the players feel like they owe anything to the fans right now?
Yes, the majority are sticking with the players.
But there are instances like we saw last week where roadblocks are being set up to stop players leaving Goodison and youngsters like Ellis Simms being questioned about what’s going on at the club.
Some of the players don’t feel safe going anywhere near the fans at the moment and while again, we know it’s a minority, you cannot blame them for avoiding the risk of an incident.
There have been allegations thrown around and video clips being shared that would lead to players probably wanting to leave the club for good, let alone play their hearts out.
It’s a hostile atmosphere and it’s hard to suck all that up just to go over to the fans and say, “thanks for your support”.
Everton’s issues run deeper than just the playing squad because a mismatch of managers, directors of football, Farhad Moshiri and Kia Joorabchian have put together this abomination of a side.
But the small section of fans who are making things way worse than they need to be need to stop because their actions are achieving the opposite result of what they want.
