Crystal Palace look to beat Everton to Arnaut Danjuma amid Goodison Park u-turn

Arnaut Danjuma is now “reluctant” to sign for Everton as a host of Premier League clubs look to beat the Toffees to the 25-year-old, according to Footmercato.

Sky Sports reported (23 January) that Danjuma was set to sign for the Toffees despite their being doubts after Frank Lampard was dismissed from his post at Goodison Park.

However, after a remarkable turn of events, it’s been suggested by Footmercato journalist Santi Aouna (24 January) that the 25-year-old is now against signing for the Merseyside club.

It’s understood Crystal Palace and Tottenham are looking to “hijack” the deal for the 25-year-old, despite the Toffees coming to a full agreement with the player.

As if the last couple of weeks couldn’t get any worse for Everton, they just have. A player who was set to be unveiled at Goodison Park has seemingly slipped through the club’s fingers – and with there only being a couple of days left in the window, it’s certainly going to be a huge disappointment.

It will be interesting to hear the full story when it eventually comes out, but the dismissal of Lampard has clearly had an impact. It’s understandable to see why Danjuma would be reluctant to make the move to Goodison Park with there being plenty of off-the-field turmoil and uncertainty.

As tough as it will be, the Toffees simply have to move on quickly from the disappointment and ensure they have a good end to the January window. The squad is in a bad way at the moment and attracting new players could well become a struggle.

However, if no new faces come through the door, the club could well be staring relegation in the face come the season’s end.
