Everton approach Marcelo Bielsa as new manager wanted before Friday

Everton have made an initial approach to appoint former Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa after the club confirmed the sacking of Frank Lampard according to The Independent.

The newspaper has reported on its website that the Argentine coach is understood to be open to the discussion.

The Toffees have lined up a list of options, but they want to make an appointment before Friday (27 January) so that the new manager can oversee the squad without focussing on matchday preparation.

The Toffees have also discussed the possibility of appointing Ralph Hassenhutl or Sean Dyche.

Pros and Cons

The club finally made the right decision to sack Lampard. He is a nice person and was truly committed to the project, however, the club was doing in the wrong direction under him, and he needed to be replaced.

Everton have a good squad, but Lampard hasn’t been able to get the best out of his players as they are dragged into the relegation dogfight once again.

Bielsa would be a superb addition.

The Argentine was a hero at Elland Road, and he is a world-class manager. He has got a great personality and believes in a distinct style of football.

In the process, he can create an identity something the Toffees are badly lacking at the moment. On the other hand, Bielsa is someone who needs time to implement his system. He is not a quick-fix solution.

He needs a proper pre-season to get the players in proper shape. It could be a disaster if he is appointed now, as the current crop of players may not respond to his high-octane style of football.

All eyes are on Everton right now.
