Fabrizio Romano: Everton track Illman Ndiaye for transfer as news emerges

Everton are tracking Sheffield United “starboy” Iliman Ndiaye in the January transfer window and proposals could arrive soon, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Toffees’ dreadful form in front of goal continued in their 2-0 loss against West Ham, meaning they have scored just 15 goals from 20 Premier League games this term.

Newspaper journalist Alan Nixon reported via his Patreon account on Sunday (22 January) that the Toffees were “sending an SOS” to sign the 22-year-old Senegal international.

Transfer insider and Guardian journalist Romano explained that Sheffield United and Paul Heckingbottom were keen on keeping the striker at the club, with Ndiaye likely to be a key cog in their promotion bid.

He tweeted (Monday 23 January): “Sheffield United’s starboy Iliman Ndiaye, attracting interest from Premier League clubs.

“He has 10 goals and 7 assists this season, proposals could arrive soon – also Everton are tracking him.

“Understand player and Sheffield plan is to stay until the end of the season.”

Not sure

It is no secret Everton need attacking reinforcements in the last week before the window shuts, but their desperation could get the better of them.

Yes, Ndiaye is in top form in the Championship at the South Yorkshire could this season, but is a former Boreham Wood player really the man to blast the Toffees away from the relegation zone.

The striker is out of contract at Bramble Lane next year, so would likely be available next year for a much-reduced fee, and you can’t help but feel Lampard need an experienced pair of shoulders to resolve his goal shortage.

The report from Nixon’s Patreon suggested Farhad Moshiri was willing to splash upwards of £22million on Ndiaye, which seems to be a little steep for a player of his experience.

Whether the Toffees will learn from their past failures to recruit solid Premier League-proven players in attack is questionable, and you can’t help but feel this transfer isn’t a realistic one with so little of the window remaining.
