Everton turn to Kamaldeen Sulemana as 'transfer priority' as 'extensive talks' held with Rennes
Everton are now expected to revisit a move for Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana after missing out on Arnaut Danjuma, according to Express Sport.
Italian journalist Marco Conterio revealed (24 January) that Tottenham have managed to hijack the Toffees’ deal for the Villarreal winger. It’s understood the 25-year-old had completed his media duties ahead of signing for Everton.
The Express now report (24 January) that Sulemana is now a “transfer priority” after already holding “extensive talks” with Rennes.
It’s believed discussions had taken place before the Danjuma move had been agreed upon, with a similar loan-to-buy option in the pipeline. It’s also understood that Rennes are open to letting the 20-year-old leave if the right offer arrives.
Everton simply have to move on from missing out on Danjuma. The Villarreal winger looked set to be wearing the royal blue shirt at the weekend, and bring a tiny bit of positivity back to the club. However, it’s now absolutely crucial the board and decision-makers don’t dwell on this transfer heartbreak.
Sulemana, like many of Everton’s targets, looks like a promising young player. He’s only 20 and would be an immediate and long-term influence if he did make the move to Merseyside. However, like so many of the players linked to Goodison Park, it’s unlikely he will be wearing an Everton jersey come the first of February.
There are seven days left in the window and it’s now up to the board to make some clever and astute additions to give Everton the best chance of securing their Premier League status.
Something dramatic has to occur in the next couple of days to reignite what has become a dreadful start to 2023 for the Toffees.
