Everton star Anthony Gordon set to join Newcastle United for up to £40m – Kaveh Solhekol
Everton forward Anthony Gordon looks like he is on his way to Newcastle United in a deal worth up to £40million, according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol.
The Magpies had been in advanced talks [Ben Jacobs, 25 January] to sign the winger, with Everton locked in FFP restrictions and sitting second-bottom in the Premier League being forced to sell their prized assets to gain some funds.
It’s been reported that the 21-year-old is expected to leave Goodison Park, and despite strong interest from Chelsea [Sky Sports, 25 August] who were prepared to pay £60million last summer, he now looks to be on his way to St James’ Park this month.

And according to Sky Sports man Solhekol, as shown in a clip on Sky Sports’ transfer blog on Wednesday night (25 January, 07:31pm), said: “Anthony Gordon looks like he’s on his way to Newcastle. It could be a deal worth up to £40million.”
Huge Loss
Despite the 21-year-old’s poor form this season, he still represents a huge loss for the Goodison faithful.
Of course, the FFP restrictions imposed on the Toffees have not helped matters, and losing their prized asset in Gordon will hurt both the fans and hierarchy but it had to be done in order to keep the club affloat financially.

At a period where the club have to keep their best players, considering their perilous position in the Premier League, selling Gordon and possibly Onana in this window could make their task in steering clear of a relegation battle impossible.
Who knows, this might just be the year the Toffees go down. It looks increasingly likely, with the club struggling to find a suitable replacement for Frank Lampard in the dugout.
Gordon is a player worthy of building a whole side around for the future, but that unfortunately won’t be Everton’s luxury. A huge loss.
