Everton weigh up up move to sign Bologna star Marko Arnautovic

Everton are “in the market for two forwards” this month and are reportedly weighing up a move for Bologna forward Marko Arnautovic, according to the Daily Mail.

The Toffees looked set to sign Villarreal forward Arnaut Danjuma but a late hijack from Tottenham scuppered their plans after the Dutchman changed his mind following Frank Lampard’s sacking on Monday [23 January].

And one of their key stars could be set to depart Goodison Park, as Anthony Gordon faces strong interest [25 January] from Premier League high-flyers Newcastle United.

Now, the Toffees are left in more transfer desperation with the club board wanting to add to the squad before the market closes at the end of the month, especially with a replacement for Lampard yet to be announced.

And according to the Daily Mail, the club are in the market for two forwards with Arnautovic of interest to the Toffees. However, the report goes on to reveal that a move [22 January] for Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech now looks likely following Lampard’s dismissal with the former Chelsea boss pushing to reunite with the Moroccan.

Perilous

These are indeed desperate and perilous times for the Toffees board, especially with their Premier League status in real jeopardy, currently sitting in the relegation places.

With no new managerial replacement planned, and the club strapped for options in the transfer market to bolster an ailing squad, it’s unclear how the club seeks to move forward in the coming weeks.

All of this current mess further shows how incompetent and useless the Toffees board have been for a long while now.

If they were planning to sack Lampard, they really should have had a solution lined up immediately, ready to use the remaining days of the window to get the players he needs to revitalise the squad for the remained of the season.

They simply have not done that, which means the club’s situation looks even direr, and the fans’ frustrations and anger towards the board are fully understood. What is the plan? Where is the long-term strategy? Where does the club go from here?
