Farhad Moshiri wants new Everton manager hired on Thursday as Sean Dyche becomes new favourite

Sean Dyche has “re-emerged as the favourite” to be the next Everton manager amid doubts surrounding Marcelo Bielsa’s interest in the job, according to The Mirror.

The Independent reported (24 January) that Marcelo Bielsa had been approached by the Toffees as they look to replace Frank Lampard in the Goodison Park dugout.

However, The Mirror now suggest (25 January) Dyche is the new favourite after doubts over the Argentinian’s enthusiasm to take the job increased.

It’s understood the former Burnley manager will hold talks with the Toffees on Thursday (26 January), with Moshiri wanting an appointment made by the end of the day.

Get it done

Everton’s only focus has to be retaining their Premier League status – and Sean Dyche gives them the best chance of achieving it. He knows how to keep teams in the top flight against the odds, and if he keeps the Toffees up it will be the biggest achievement of his managerial career.

Bielsa would’ve been a fanciful appointment. He plays an expansive style of football and likes to utilise an extremely high tempo. Unfortunately, this group of players are not capable of playing in such a way. Furthermore, there’s barely any time left in the window for new recruits to come to Goodison Park and make a difference.

Dyche should have been lined up to take the job immediately after Lampard was sacked, and it’s yet another mark against Moshiri and the board that this wasn’t the case.

Everyone could see the 44-year-old wasn’t fit to manage Everton and that a change was required. The board must now not waste any more time and get the former Burnley man in the dugout as soon as possible.
