Marcelo Bielsa travels to London for more talks over Everton manager role

Marcelo Bielsa has travelled to London for more talks with Everton about becoming the new manager of the club, according to Telegraph journalist Matt Law.

Bielsa has emerged as the number one target for the Toffees to replace Frank Lampard at Goodison Park, who was sacked on Monday following a poor run of form that left the team 19th in the table.

But while Bielsa is said to be unsure about taking the job immediately, the Argentina has travelled to London for more talks and Everton hope to convince him to take the job but are hopeful of receiving more clarity soon.

“Marcelo Bielsa has travelled to London for more talks over the Everton job,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (26 January).

“Still needs a lot of convincing over the squad but club hope to get final clarity soon over whether or not he will accept offer.”

Strange

This is a very strange move from the club, because it seems incredibly obvious to most that this squad and club doesn’t suit what he usually goes for.

Bielsa likes to have full control of playing matters, but also demands a super-fit squad who can run forever and doesn’t particularly care for the defensive side of the game.

Everton

Considering Everton are in a desperate relegation battle and have got very limited attacking options right now, it seems highly unlikely that Bielsa is the right man to come in and turn the ship around quickly.

He was on the way to relegation when he got sacked by Leeds last season, and he’s likely to be incredibly expensive too. All these things point towards this appointment being a disaster.

But his credentials speak for themselves and at the end of the day it doesn’t matter what we think if Farhad Moshiri wants him, because he’ll just appoint him anyway.
