Amanda Staveley in talks to sign Everton ace Anthony Gordon as Newcatle bid directed to Farhad Moshiri
Newcastle United are in advanced talks to sign Everton forward Anthony Gordon and have submitted a bid directly to Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri, according to Daily Mail journalist Dominic King.
The winger was of strong interest to both the Magpies and Chelsea [Sky Sports, 25 August] last summer who were reportedly willing to pay £60million, with the academy product desiring a move away ahead of the new season.
Six months on, and the same story persists. Journalist Luke Edwards reported in The Telegraph on Tuesday afternoon (24 January) that the Magpies were “confident” of landing Gordon.
Fabrizio Romano reported [Twitter, 26 January] in the early hours of Friday morning that talks were to continue in order to find a resolution, with a move away from Goodison Park this month a priority for the 21-year-old.
And Daily Mail took to his own personal Twitter account [26 January] to provide an update on proceedings.
He tweeted: “Fair to say, too, these talks are further advanced than is being indicated. Newcastle made their first offer direct to Farhad Moshiri last Thursday during a meeting in London. Amanda Staveley is involved in discussions for Newcastle.”
Top dollar
It certainly looks as if Gordon will finally be getting his wish to leave Goodison Park which spells bad news for Everton.
Despite his poor form this season, the 21-year-old’s departure could still leave a sour taste for the Toffees faithful, considering his huge potential and current ceiling as an Everton young superstar.

Yes, the club are in financial peril right now, but that doesn’t mean they can’t get the best out of any potential deal and Moshiri should be demanding top dollar to sell the talented forward.
Gordon is good enough to go elsewhere and be coached into a potential world-beater and that is likely to happen at Newcastle United who have been completely transformed by Eddie Howe and his staff.
That could have potential ramifications on the Toffees, who Gordon could return to haunt in the future.
£45million+ should be the required price tag to sell.
