Everton want manager at Finch Farm on Monday as Marcelo Bielsa development emerges – Paul Joyce

Marcelo Bielsa has flown into London for talks with the Everton owner Farhad Moshiri about becoming the club’s new manager, with the Toffees wanting a new appointment in the next 48hrs, according to The Times.

The Blues board sacked Frank Lampard on Monday [23 January] following the club’s dreadful position in the Premier League table and their poor run of form.

The Toffees have yet to line up an immediate replacement for the Chelsea legend but are currently in talks with Bielsa who is reportedly their top choice to take over the reins.

The revolutionary Argentine is thought to be a tough candidate for the Toffees board, as he holds doubts about the squad’s suitability to exert his methods.

However, the Toffees are desperate for his appointment. And according to The Times [27 January], the former Leeds United boss has flown into London for talks with Moshiri and the club board, with the club wanting to make an appointment in the next 48hrs so the manager can take training on Monday.

The report goes on to reveal that Bielsa flying into the UK for talks has given Moshiri “hope that he can land his top target”.

Risky

If this was at the start of the campaign, then appointing Bielsa would have been a smart and ambitious choice. However, it’s at the middle of the campaign which could present huge risks and become a recipe for disaster.

The Argentine’s high-intensity methods aren’t what’s needed to get the club out of the drop zone right now.

With Bielsa’s philosophy a long and hard-fought process to complete, there are doubts about whether the squad would be motivated to implement it at this stage of the season.

What the squad needs is a firefighter, someone who has experience in taking clubs out of tough situations like a relegation battle and bringing the best out of every player at his disposal.

Bielsa can perform the latter but the former which is the most crucial right now, he’s got no experience in. The Toffees fans will be praying Moshiri knows what he’s doing here, especially considering his consistent incompetence as a club owner.

Everton are meddling in risky waters.
