Newcastle close to agreeing transfer fee for Everton attacker Anthony Gordon – Sky Sports

Newcastle are reportedly close to agreeing a fee with Everton for their attacker Anthony Gordon in the January transfer window.

According to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, the Magpies are in talks with the Toffees which are now at an advanced stage.

The deal is understood to be worth £45million and it’s now being discussed as to how best to structure it.

Via Twitter, Downie wrote, “Newcastle are close to agreeing a fee with Everton for Anthony Gordon. Talks over a structured deal totalling £45m are at an advanced stage. There is growing belief a deal can be done over the weekend.”

Good deal?

There have been claims on both sides about a transfer request but it’s understood that Gordon is not forcing a move away.

That said, he missed training so it’s surprising that he’s not yet told the club that he wants to leave, but it now seems likely to happen.

The financials in the deal seem fine and it’s close to what Everton were getting from Chelsea in the summer, but they did not end up selling him.

However, now, given the fact that he’s missing training sessions and also that he’s not had a good season, it makes sense to cash in on him.

Many expected Gordon to hit new heights this term, but that has not happened and he’s become a shadow of himself.

Newcastle are an extremely rich club and they can pay what Everton want so there’s a good reason to expect this deal to go ahead.
