Sky Sports journalist: Everton agree fee with Newcastle United for Anthony Gordon transfer

Newcastle United have agreed a £45million fee for Everton winger Anthony Gordon, and the player is due to take his medical in the next 24 hours, according to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie.

The Toffees ace has been subject to an ongoing transfer saga this month and missed three consecutive days of training with the club as interest from the Magpies spiked.

Despite initially having different valuations on the player, the two parties have now brokered an agreement that will be worth £45million, with Gordon due to take his medical in the next 24 hours.

Sky Sports news reporter Downie tweeted (Friday 27 January): “Fee now agreed for Anthony Gordon to move to Newcastle. £45m total agreement.

“The forward is due on Tyneside for his medical in the next 24 hours.”

Finally

There was only going to be one outcome of the ongoing transfer sage between Everton and Newcastle, and the deal seems to finally have been completed.

With Gordon seemingly wanting an exit from Goodison Park, it is the right move to cash in on their star player and uses the money to reinvest elsewhere in the squad.

If Sean Dyche is to come into the club, he can use the money in the dying stages of the transfer window to bring in the personnel he thinks can propel the club away from the relegation zone in the coming months.

There is no point having a player who is not 100% committed to the cause hanging around the club, and Dyche will likely want his players running themselves into the ground for him. Therefore the exit makes complete sense.

The Toffees will now look to make some swift progress in the transfer window and make a couple of key additions to bolster their paper-thin squad. Gordon will be fondly remembered by fans, but his recent actions will have left a bitter taste in fans’ minds.
