Dele Alli in last-chance saloon at Besiktas, Everton exit to Championship club on the cards

By Tim Fadipe

According to Turkish journalist Gokmen Ozcan, Everton do not want Dele Alli back at the club this month amid his failure to impress at Besiktas.

Alli was loaned to Besiktas in the summer in hope of reinvigorating his career but it hasn’t panned out the way he would have wanted.

Fanatik journalist Ozcan reported on Twitter on 27 January that the former Tottenham midfielder now faces his “last chance” at Besiktas and if things don’t work out there or at Goodison Park once his loan spell is over, “his next route will be [to] the Championship”.

An unfortunate fall from grace

Alli seemingly had the footballing world at his mercy a few short years ago. After making the move from Milton Keynes Dons and starring in his first few years at Tottenham, Alli was the flavour of the league, one of the young talents that could be a cornerstone for the Premier League for years to come but it hasn’t worked out that way for the young Englishman.

It seems light years ago that Alli was picking up back-to-back PFA Young Player of the Year awards netting 28 goals in his first seasons in the league. By this time in his career, many would have estimated based on his career trajectory that he would be in a starring role for a club that is aiming for the biggest trophies in world football. However, at still a very young 26 years old, he can’t seem to find a club that wants his services.

He was welcomed in Turkey with much fanfare, with said hoping he will find the form that propelled him to one of the most sought-after young talents in world football. However, that fanfare soon turned to anguish as in his nine appearances, he has netted a single time and has left fans and management alike frustrated at his lack of production.
