Everton just hours way from announcing Anthony Gordon transfer to Newcastle United – Fabrizio Romano
Everton are just hours away from announcing Anthony Gordon’s departure to Newcastle United, according to the Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano.
According to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie (personal Twitter account, 28 January), Gordon has already passed his medical ahead of his £45million move to St James’ Park.
Romano has since revealed (Caughtoffside, 29 January) the 21-year-old has signed his contracts and is set to be unveiled.

“It’s already signed, Gordon will be unveiled as Newcastle player in the next hours,” said Romano.
“The fee is £40m plus £5m add-ons accepted by Everton, a five-year deal for Gordon. Chelsea wanted the player in August; they have not returned with any approach or bid in January.”
Finally
This is a transfer saga which needed to come to an end, and it feels like the best move for everyone involved. Gordon clearly wanted out of Goodison Park despite the Toffees being his boyhood club. He’s a young player who is still learning his craft and evidently, he didn’t want to be part of a team which is embroiled in a relegation dogfight.
Everton will receive a significant transfer fee and it has to be reinvested over the coming days. Gordon will have to be replaced, with there still being a need for one or two more attacking additions. Goals have been hard to come by so far in the 2022/23 campaign and Sean Dyche will be desperate to add to his squad in that respect.

The issue for Everton is that they’ve left their transfer business to the very end of the window, partly due to the uncertainty over Frank Lampard’s future at the club. It will be intriguing to see what they can muster in the remaining time in the window. The board and Dyche simply have to come up with something on the transfer front.
