Everton reject PSV Eindhoven bid for permanent Jarrad Branthwaite exit

Everton have rejected a bid from PSV Eindhoven for defender Jarrad Branthwaite to make his loan move permanent, according to the Daily Mail.

The young defender has spent the first half of the season on loan at the Eredivisie club, making 12 appearances so far and scoring one goal.

But despite impressing enough to convince PSV to make an offer to turn that loan deal permanent, Everton have turned their offer down but intend to let him stay there for the rest of the season on loan as initially planned.

Future proofing

Considering the issues the club have had financially in the last 18 months or so, it’s no surprise that we’re being targeted by other clubs for our better young players.

Branthwaite struggled when he initially came into the first-team under Rafa Benitez and Frank Lampard because the team was playing so badly, but he’s looked better in Holland.

With Conor Coady and James Tarkowski established as the first-choice central defenders at the club, and the futures of all of Yerry Mina, Michael Keane, Mason Holgate and Ben Godfrey up in the air, it makes a lot of sense for Branthwaite to stick around.

Sean Dyche has never been afraid to use a young defender if necessary and Branthwaite suits what he usually looks for. He’s strong aerially, good on the ball and physically strong.

The value of the offer is unknown but it would take a really good fee to convince the club to allow such a decent prospect to leave and leave ourselves in a weaker position.
