Everton target Anthony Elanga likely to stay at Manchester United until the summer – David Ornstein

Everton remain keen on January target Anthony Elanga, but the 20-year-old forward is likely to remain at Manchester United until the summer, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

The nine-time Swedish international has long been a target for the Toffees this month, with GiveMeSport [1 January] reporting that the Toffees were in contact with the player’s agent.

The Carrington academy graduate has seen his game-time limited under Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, making only seven starts so far this campaign and registering just one assist.

With the club looking to bolster their attacking weaponry this month, with Sean Dyche formally announced [30 January] as new Toffees boss, the Blues have been reportedly been pushing for Elanga to join [United Stand, 9 January].

However, according to David Ornstein, writing in his Monday Athletic column [30 January], a deal for the 20-year-old remains unlikely as Manchester United boss Ten Hag wants to keep the forward until at least the summer with their attacking options currently limited.

Reinforcements needed

With just a day left of the window to go, new boss Dyche will be in desperate need of some attacking reinforcements, and it makes you wonder why the club have left their business so late.

Elanga could have well been a decent option to bolster Everton’s ranks, especially with Anthony Gordon departing to Newcastle United this month.

Everton

The former Burnley boss faces a huge job on his hands to keep the Toffees up, and one area which will be the top of his agenda will be the team’s lacklustre attack. The Toffees have only managed just 15 Premier League goals so far this season – the second lowest in the division.

With Gordon gone, the club are in dire need of some new impetus as they look to steer clear of a dreadful relegation once again. Who the club bring in with so little time left to go could be incredibly decisive.
