Everton to submit official deadline-day bid for Sheraldo Becker at Union Berlin – Sky Sports Germany journalist

An Everton deadline-day official bid for Union Berlin forward Sheraldo Becker is “not to be ruled out”, according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The Toffees are in desperate need of some attacking reinforcements this month to boost Sean Dyche’s squad following his appointment.

And the Blues have identified Union Berlin’s in-form winger Becker with Sky Germany reporting on their transfer live blog (30 January, 6.35 pm), that the club would like to lure the forward to Goodison Park this month.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed a stunning breakthrough season for the German outfit, registering seven goals and four assists from 18 league appearances in the Bundesliga.

And according to Plettenberg, taking to his personal Twitter account [30 January] has reported that Union Berlin would like to keep the forward at the club beyond the January deadline, but a deadline day official bid from the Blues cannot be ruled out as the 27-year-old would be open to a Premier League move.

Risk?

Seven goals and four assists from 18 Bundesliga games is a stunning return for a somewhat unknown quantity in the German top flight. Becker has indeed proven one of the division’s breakout stars.

And with Everton in desperate need of attacking quality, it’s unclear how Becker could fare in the Premier League. A lot of players have moved from Germany and struggled to make a name for themself in the English top flight.

Everton

Dyche needs proven quality, players immediately ready to come in and aid a failing Toffees attack who have only scored just 15 goals all season in the top flight – the third worst in the league.

Can Becker come in swiftly and be that player? It’s a very risky move from the Toffees and one which Dyche may not need to make with their Premier League status in real danger.
