Everton in advanced talks to sign free agent Andre Ayew - L'Equipe
Andre Ayew is in advanced talks with Everton as the Toffees look to add to their attacking options before Tuesday’s deadline, according to L’Equipe.
The Daily Mail claimed (31 January) the 33-year-old free agent was of interest to the Merseyside club, and that a deal could be completed outside the transfer window.
L’Equipe have now suggested (31 January) the Ghanian international is now in “advanced discussions” with Everton, with a return to the Premier League looking likely for the former Swansea striker.
Last option
Everton have endured a tough couple of days on the transfer front and it appears the move for Ayew has come out of desperation more than anything. Sean Dyche has missed out on a number of targets in recent days, and it’s clear he just wants to get a move over the line.
Bodies are needed in forward areas, but whether a free agent is the right option remains to be seen. The 33-year-old will provide competition, but he’s almost certainly not what the new boss would’ve been after.

Attracting young players appears to have become a problem for the Toffees in the latter stage of the window, with Conor Gallagher the latest to turn a move to Goodison Park down.
There’s no rush for Everton to complete the signing of Ayew, but with just a matter of hours left in the transfer window, it appears extremely unlikely that any players who are currently in contract will be signed. Fans can live in hope, but we don’t anticipate a busy night at Finch Farm.
