Everton to try again in last-gasp bid for Roma attacker Nicolo Zaniolo, Leeds also in hunt
Everton are set to battle Leeds United for Roma attacker Nicolo Zaniolo before the January window slams shut, according to Italian journalist, Ilario Di Giova.
Calciomercato claimed (31 January) the Toffees have tabled a loan-to-buy offer for the 23-year-old, who has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs over the course of the window.
Di Giova, who is a reporter for Italian news outlet Radioradio, has since suggested Everton will try again for Zaniolo, with Leeds also in the hunt.
“Everton and Leeds go back to Zaniolo and try again by 12.00 pm closing time of the English market,” he wrote (via Twitter, 31 January).
Desperate time
At the moment, any sort of attacking reinforcement would be greatly welcomed at Goodison Park. Zaniolo looks an exciting prospect, but whether a move can be completed before the deadline remains to be seen. Time is very much ticking for Sean Dyche as he looks to add to his squad.

At present, there’s very little in terms of concrete and reliable rumours coming out of Goodison Park. The reports from Italy can sometimes be taken with a pinch of salt, with it being unclear if any move for the 23-year-old has actually been made.
Fans will be extremely disappointed if Everton fail to land at least one attacker in the remaining hours of the window. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Neal Maupay have struggled so far in the 2022/23 campaign and competition is certainly required if Everton want to mount a credible survival challenge.
As the seconds tick down, let’s hope for at least one piece of positive news on the transfer front.
