Everton want to sign Southampton striker Che Adams on deadline day after Sean Dyche appointment

Everton want to sign Southampton striker Che Adams on transfer deadline day after Sean Dyche’s appointment as manager, according to Mike McGrath.

The Toffees need attacking reinforcements after scoring just 15 goals in 19 games so far this season, and then selling Anthony Gordon to Newcastle during the January transfer window.

And after Dyche was officially confirmed as Frank Lampard’s replacement in the dugout, they are now targeting Saints striker Adams before Tuesday’s deadline.

“Everton have an interest in Southampton striker Che Adams to strengthen Sean Dyche’s attack following his appointment. Saints do not want to sell striker on Deadline Day,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (31 January).

Adams is another signing who like Neal Maupay doesn’t fill Everton fans with confidence that goals will start flowing, but he brings more to the team.

Adams’ record in the Premier League isn’t the greatest, but he does know how to find the back of the net. Aside from that though, his ability to bring others into play is one of his best attributes and could help to share the goals around.

The likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Demarai Gray, and Dwight McNeil have got goals in them, plus with reports of a £22m bid for Kamaldeen Sulemana being accepted too, it would suggest he wouldn’t be the only one to come in.

Sean Dyche likes to play with two up front judging from his time at Burnley, which means another forward is necessary considering Maupay’s form and Calvert-Lewin’s injury issues.

Southampton are tough negotiators and will demand a big fee, especially knowing that we have money to spend after Gordon’s sale, so this will certainly be one to keep an eye on as the day progresses.
