Fabrizio Romano: Andre Ayew heads to London for Everton transfer talks

Andre Ayew is on his way to London for transfer talks with Everton, with the player available as a free agent following the close of the transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Daily Mail reported [31 January] that the 33-year-old was of interest to the Merseyside club, and that a deal could be completed outside the transfer window.

Reports in French outlet L’Equipe [31 January] then suggested that the Ghanian international was in “advanced discussions” with Everton, with a return to the Premier League looking likely for the former Swansea striker.

According to reliable journalist Romano, the player is now on his way to London for talks with the Toffees bosses regarding a potential out-of-window move.

Taking to his personal Twitter account [1 February], he tweeted: “André Ayew, on his way to London now to negotiate with two Premier League clubs — including Everton.”

“Ayew, available as free agent and open to new step.”

Desperate

It was incredibly disappointing that the Toffees could not add to Sean Dyche’s squad when he desperately needed attacking reinforcements.

Everton have been dreadful in front of goal this season in what’s been an incredibly frustrating and tumultuous season for the Toffees faithful. And that was further compounded by their lack of activity in the transfer market following the appointment of Dyche just a day earlier.

Everton

Every action taken by the board since then has smacked of desperation and suggest that they are very incompetent and lack a clear plan or strategy as to how to clear the club of this dreadful mess.

The interest in Ayew who has been well past his best for a long while, and a player who endured a disappointing World Cup with Ghana is just another example of the board’s failure and inept leadership. Ayew isn’t the man to take Dyche’s men out of the relegation zone, and at this point, the former Burnley manager is going to need a huge miracle.
