Sean Dyche already let down by Everton after deadline day failure – Sky Sports journalist

Sean Dyche will be “gutted” after expecting Everton to add to the squad on transfer deadline day, according to Sky Sports journalist Sam Tighe.

Everton ended the January window as the only Premier League club to not sign any new players despite a £40million-plus sale of Anthony Gordon, a change of manager and the fact they’re currently in the relegation zone.

Blues fans descended upon Finch Farm and Goodison Park to show their anger over the lack of arrivals on deadline day, hanging up banners mocking the board for their failures.

Tighe believes that even though Dyche has only officially been the Everton manager for a couple of days, he may already feel let down by the club.

Speaking on the Transfer Talk podcast on 1 February (7m10s), Tighe said: “They sold one of their only attacking sparks and then appointed Sean Dyche.

“They were clearly hoping to get something done on deadline day. They had a couple of approaches knocked back here and there.

“They obviously found it financially difficult to do anything, even with Gordon being paid for mostly upfront because they’re really in the red. They have a stadium build to finance, they’re up against it on FFP and they can’t really put up the wage packet that most players would require to join Everton and see if they can make a difference.

“I saw they had a quick look at Ismaila Sarr with two hours to go and their hands were tied to an extent.

“But that doesn’t make it any less disappointing and gutting for Everton fans, and probably gutting for Sean Dyche too, who would have been expecting – having just sold Gordon for £40million plus £5million – something, anything. But there was nothing.”

Disgraceful

If Farhad Moshiri promised the fans that he’d add to the squad in January, you can only imagine that similar sort of assurances were made to Dyche.

The former Burnley manager has been tasked with keeping Everton in the Premier League after Frank Lampard’s tactical ineptitude left us in the relegation zone after 20 games.

Dyche now has 18 matches to secure, at the very least, a 17th-placed finish.

Can he do that with the squad he’s got?

Although Gordon wasn’t the most popular play on the blue half of Merseyside, he was at least someone in the squad who had the ability to win matches.

Last season, the 21-year-old was heralded as a hero as he produced massive performances in the second half of the campaign to keep us in the Premier League.

Even this season, Gordon had three Premier League goals for Everton. Demarai Gray (five) is the only player with more.

Everton have issues at both end of the pitch and while Dyche should at least be able to sort out the defence – because we know that Jordan Pickford, James Tarkowski and Conor Coady have quality – we have serious doubts about our ability to score goals.
