Amadou Onana shares message on Instagram after rejecting Everton exit move in January

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana has sent a strong message on Instagram after he posted a picture of him returning to training.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who joined from Lille last summer, was surprisingly linked with a move away from the club in the winter transfer window. The Times reported on 26 January that Chelsea have stepped up their interest in the player.

Foot Mercato shared on 26 January that Chelsea had made an offer to sign the four-cap Belgium international, but Onana refused the chance to leave the club in January.

The Telegraph reported on 26 January that the Toffees have rejected a move from Chelsea for Onana, while Fabrizio Romano said to Give Me Sport on 27 January that the player wants to fight for the club.

“Said what I said and did what I did,” wrote Onana with a hashtag message that he is not jumping ship.

Onana will have to be at his best if Everton are to avoid relegation this season.

The Belgium midfielder played a major role under Frank Lampard, and Sean Dyche will want him to continue playing at the top level.

It is not easy to reject the advances of Chelsea and Onana did exactly that. He has shown great commitment towards the club, and the fans will appreciate that.

Having said that, the Toffees badly needed to sign a midfielder.

Idrissa Gueye is not the same player anymore, and he continues to lose possession in the middle of the park.

The likes of Abdoulaye Doucoure and Tom Davies haven’t been able to make an impact this season, although Alex Iwobi has been superb.

The Toffees did make an attempt to sign Connor Gallagher towards the closing stages of the window, but he rejected the chance to join the Toffees.

With the club failing to sign a single player last month, Dyche will have to get the best out of existing ones to take the club out of this mess.
