Jamie Carragher doubles down on ridiculous Everton claim as he blasts Goodison boardroom
Jamie Carragher has reiterated his stance by claiming once again that Everton are the worst run club in England.
The Sky Sports pundit previously made such a statement on the Toffees on Monday Night Football (24 January), and while writing for The Telegraph on 1 February, he notes that he has been vindicated after the Toffees failed to sign a single player in the January transfer window.
Carragher suggests that if the Toffees go down, a proper explanation is needed from people at the top as to why the Toffees are the only club fighting relegation who have come out of the transfer window with a weaker squad, otherwise their position is “untenable”.

“If the club fails to recover and goes down everyone involved in this almighty cock-up – from majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri to the boardroom executives Bill Kenwright, chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale and sporting director Kevin Thelwell – will be held responsible,” wrote Carragher.
“There ought to be a full and frank explanation as to how and why Everton are the only club fighting relegation who have come out of the transfer window with a weaker squad, otherwise positions are untenable.”
Well, it is a fact that Everton are poorly managed at board levels, and they made a mess in the transfer window. They have spent badly in recent years, and are paying the price for it.
But that doesn’t make them the worst-run club in the country. It’s a ridiculous comment. He can rest his case by limiting his stretch to the Premier League, but it seems he is not aware of what’s been going on in the lower tiers of English football.

Had that been the case, Carragher would have drawn a comparison with Birmingham City who are under EFL investigation and whose dilapidated stadium is collapsing. They are surviving on a loan system and had faced point deductions before.
Carragher probably is not aware of West Brom’s situation. Don’t get fooled by their league position. Carlos Corberan has turned the club around, but the Baggies owner has missed two £5m loan repayment deadlines. On top of that, they have taken a further £20m just to run the club on a daily basis.
The popular football pundit probably does not think that Cardiff City, the division’s lowest scorers sitting 21st in the table, are in a perilous position. The fans continue their protest outside the stadium as they call for owner Vincent Tan to leave.
Carragher even fails to mention Southend United – who could go out of business! The National League club, who are facing an HM Revenue & Customs winding-up petition, are struggling to even pay wages to their players, according to BBC Sport.
That doesn’t take away the fact that the Toffees are being poorly run at the moment, but they are definitely not the worst-run club in the country.
