Richard Keys blasts Everton as Andre Ayew snubs free transfer in favour of Nottingham Forest move

Richard Keys has blasted Everton after they were reportedly snubbed by Andre Ayew in favour of a transfer to Nottingham Forest after the deadline passed.

The Toffees failed to make a single signing during the January transfer window despite selling Anthony Gordon to Newcastle and hiring new manager Sean Dyche to try and move them away from relegation.

The club began looking at free agents to bolster the squad instead and were interested in Ghana legend Ayew, but after the Daily Mail reported that he had instead chosen Nottingham Forest, beIN Sports host Keys couldn’t hold his tongue online.

“No. It really is over if Forest can beat you to the signing of Andre Ayew,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (2 Febuary).

“And I mean no disrespect to Forest. But come on. We’re talking Everton here. Snubbed by Andre Ayew? What next?”

Awful

We can’t believe that we’re having to say this, but Keys is right about this. It’s getting ridiculous.

Forest have signed 26 players this season and are still battling for their lives in the division, yet players are still picking them and their issues over ours, and that tells you all you need to know.

To be rejected so regularly and so openly last month was awful to see, because it suggested that players aren’t convinced about the direction the club is going in and would rather not be part of it.

It gives Sean Dyche a huge job to do as manager, but also shines a light on just how badly the club is being run at board room level that they can’t get new faces to see their so-called vision.

Ayew wouldn’t have been an ideal signing anyway, but the fact we can’t even get those deals over the line tells you all you need to know.
