Finance Expert: Jahm Najafi windfall comes at perfect time for Everton investment

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...

Dan Plumley has insisted that the impending sale of the Pheonix Suns in the NBA could be good timing for Jahm Najafi as he eyes investment at Everton.

It was reported by Paul Brown on January 26 that the Iranian-American businessman is set for a windfall from the $4billion sale [£3.2bn].

Finance Expert, Plumley, admitted that liquidity and having cash available is the biggest factor in any investment, so the situation surrounding Najafi is one to watch.

“If he is seriously interested in Everton, then this is good timing,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“For me, liquidity is the biggest factor in any investment or takeover, you can talk about net wealth, but you have to have the cash to be able to buy the club and then fund the operations as we know.

“Look at Everton at the minute and talk about valuations compared to that windfall, and it’s well within reach. Everton are, at the minute, probably a £350-400million club for a full acquisition, which could be £500million+ in the future with the new stadium, but that’s dependent on Premier League football as well, so we have to factor that in.

“It’s an interesting one given the current situation of the club, so it’s one to keep an eye on.”

All eyes will be on Farhad Moshiri.

It is all well and good having the money and liquidity to get some investment signed off, and as much as Moshiri wants it, he hasn’t exactly made it easy for anyone to do that so far.
