Richard Keys slams screen live on air in Everton argument with Andy Gray

Richard Keys slammed a TV screen live on air whilst debating Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s form for Everton with Andy Gray.

Keys has suggested that Sean Dyche’s Burnley side were better than the squad he is inheriting at Goodison Park.

When trying to pick their combined eleven from Burnley’s 2021/22 squad and Everton’s current options, the pair couldn’t agree on the England striker’s inclusion.

Gray said (BeIN Sports, 4 February): “I know he’s had a terrible season but you can’t not have Calvert-Lewin up front.”

Keys replied: “You can, I am going Chris Wood all day long. I would put Ashley Barnes, and Jay Rodriguez, I am going in with Cornet as well, anything that Burnley had up top last year.

“Andy, he [Calvert Lewin] is miles off of it.”

Pointless

Quite why these two decided to have this debate is still a mystery. Who actually cares whether Burnley’s 2021/22 side was better than Everton’s current squad? All that matters is that Everton picked up a crucial three points against the Premier League leaders.

What’s encouraging is that the performance has shown this group of players do have what it takes to pull themselves away from the relegation zone. Dyche knows exactly how to get a group of players fighting for each other whilst also installing some impressive tactical principles.

There’s still plenty of work to be done but considering Everton haven’t signed anyone and Dyche only had a matter of days on the training ground, this is a near-perfect start.

Next Monday’s Merseyside Derby clash against Liverpool is suddenly looking like a very winnable game for Everton with their rivals in disarray at the moment. It’s amazing what a week can do in football, with the outlook now looking very positive for the Toffees moving forward.
