Ian Wright gushes over Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin for what he did v Arsenal

Ian Wright was thrilled by the performance of Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin during the 1-0 victory over Arsenal on Saturday, 4 January.

The English striker did not get his name on the scoresheet but proved to be a constant thorn in Arsenal’s side and offered a lot on and off the ball.

He has found it hard this season but had a good game in Sean Dyche’s debut as Toffees manager.

Everton

Speaking to the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Wright said (06/02, 14:35), “Calvert-Lewin dangerous as he did under Carlo Ancelotti, winning headers and flying into the box. Really good performance from him.”

Impressive

Calvert-Lewin’s looked like a shadow of himself all season and it was good to see him being proactive and hungry for a change.

He chased down loose balls, closed opponents down perfectly and was a real menace for the Arsenal defence that struggled to deal with him.

Eventually, their focusing too much on him, led to other players finding space and Dyche used this to his advantage.

Everton

Everton did not look for once that they were losing the game and we have to give a massive amount of credit to the entire team.

They dug in and didn’t just sit back and not create chances all game, but played perfectly on the counter attack and knew when the right moment to strike was.

Calvert-Lewin was one of the top-ranked players in our ratings as well and we’re hoping to see him continuing these kinds of performances in the future.
