Everton hire Lee Sargeson to recruitment team after instrumental role at Brighton

Everton have hired Lee Sargeson as their new manager of scouting operations, the recruitment expert has confirmed on LinkedIn.

Sargeson had spent almost six years as a senior scouting manager at Brighton, while before that he held roles at Aston Villa and Bolton.

Brighton have become a model club in recent years due to their clever recruitment and it seems Everton’s director of football Kevin Thelwell has head-hunted Sargeson in a bid to improve the quality of scouting at Goodison Park.

Time for change

Everton’s recruitment with Farhad Moshiri in charge at Goodison Park is a mess.

It’s his fault, too.

Moshiri has been more than happy to splash the cash on new signings but hasn’t adhered to any kind of vision at Goodison, hiring and firing directors of football at a rate at which some clubs go through managers.

Everton have therebefore been left with a squad put together by multiple managers and multiple directors of football.

Steve Walsh, Marcel Brands and Thelwell all no doubt have different visions in the same way that Sam Allardyce and Carlo Ancelotti did too.

There needs to be some continuity behind the scenes that allows the director of football to make the decisions when it comes to signing and selling players but also hiring and firing managers.

Moshiri is clueless about football so he needs to stop meddling in the club’s affairs and let people who know what they’re doing get on with it.

Unfortunately, there aren’t many people like that at Everton, which is why so much trust now needs to be put in Thelwell and Sean Dyche.
