BT Sport pundit makes Liverpool v Everton admission ahead of Merseyside derby

Joleon Lescott admits that he’s been baffled by Liverpool’s lack of preparedness this season and believes that Everton have a chance to get a result.

The Toffees visit Anfield to take on their cross-town rivals in the Merseyside derby on Monday, 13 February, after winning Sean Dyche’s first game in charge against Arsenal.

Liverpool, on the other hand, go into this one on the back of a 3-0 defeat against Wolves.

Everton

Lescott, a BT Sport pundit, told Livescore, “There’s never a perfect time to face Liverpool at Anfield — but Monday’s Merseyside derby could be as good a time as ever for Everton.

“Sean Dyche’s men go into the grudge clash on a high after an excellent win over Arsenal in the former Burnley manager’s first game in charge.

“I’m staggered by the lack of adaptation from game to game. You can’t keep playing the same way and expect different results — it’s bordering on insanity!

“It is the first time for a while under the German boss where the level of expectancy has significantly dropped.

“Everton will know that and head across the city thinking they can get a result.”

Nothing to lose

In many ways, Dyche’s first two games in charge were free hits as they’re against two of the best teams in the Premier League.

He’s managed to defeat the league leaders and he must set his side up with the same attitude against Jurgen Klopp’s men.

The Toffees may again spend the majority of the game without the ball but Dyche is made for situations like this and the players appear to be responding to his methods.

He’s also managed to give players like Abdoulaye Doucoure and Dominic Calvert-Lewin some new-found confidence as they put up impressive performances against Arsenal, perhaps their best ones of the season.

Amadou Onana has been someone who’s been consistent all campaign and hopefully, he has another good game against the Reds on Monday night.

The away fans are going to shout their throats out as they know that an early goal will silence the Anfield crowd and that’ll be a huge advantage for the visitors.
