Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford ‘wants a big move’ this summer – report

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford “wants a big move” this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Manchester United all on the lookout for new number ones, according to journalist Graeme Bailey.

The 28-year-old’s contract at Goodison Park runs out in 18 months, which has previously sparked transfer speculation in the past with the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported [13 January] that the Merseyside club will attempt to get Pickford to put pen to paper and secure his long-term future at the club.

However, the 50-time England international is desiring a “landmark” move away in the future and although a new deal has been discussed it is not imminent according to Bailey.

Speaking exclusively to TEAMtalk [10 February], he said: “Pickford has less than 18 months left on his current deal at Everton and although a new deal has been discussed, it is not imminent.

“Despite Everton’s struggles in recent years there is little doubting Pickford’s quality and he has kept his England slot which signals the regard he is held in, and not only by England boss Gareth Southgate.

“As it stands, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Manchester United could all be on the lookout for new number ones and Pickford is admired by them all.

“Pickford is about to turn 29 and if he wants a big move, this summer could very well be his big chance.”

Deserves big move

Everton will be desperate to tie down the 28-year-old to a new deal in the near future, but it is evidently clear the player will want reassurances if that is to happen.

Pickford has been a big-time performer for England at two World Cups and a European Championship, so he’ll certainly be tempted by the Champions League at a bigger club.

Everton

With the current state the Toffees are in right now, it may be an easier decision for him to jump ship and head elsewhere which will be incredibly damaging for Everton, especially after also losing Anthony Gordon to Newcastle United.

Losing another big-name star to a Premier League club certainly doesn’t seem ambitious from a club who are supposed to be one of the biggest clubs in England. If the club are forced to sell, it is hugely vital they demand a price bigger than the one recouped by the Gordon sale.

Pickford is too big an Everton servant to let go for cheap.
