Everton want to sign Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi in the summer, valued at £31m

Everton want to sign Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi in the summer and are ready to outbid Juventus to get it done, according to TuttoJuve.

The Toffees failed to strengthen their squad at all during the January transfer window, but sold Anthony Gordon in a deal worth up to £45m to add some cash to their budget for Sean Dyche.

The club must first avoid relegation before looking to the summer transfer window, but according to a report they have their eye on Italy international Frattesi and are ready to make a move to bring him to Goodison Park.

“Juventus is closely following Davide Frattesi, the Bianconeri like the player a lot, but the problem is Sassuolo’s valuation, which would be €35million (£31m), exactly ten less than Juventus,” they wrote (11 February).

“In fact, the Emilian team would have offers from English teams, including Everton, Leicester and Brighton who could be interested in the player and offer much more.”

Priorities

Looking at transfer signings for the summer now seems as if the club have got their priorities in a twist.

The time for transfers being done was in January, and with that chance to improve the squad missed it means it’s now simply impossible to plan for the summer.

Nobody knows if we will be able to avoid relegation, and obviously if we’re unable to then Everton will be forced to sell a lot of our better players but also the calibre of player we can attract in will be greatly reduced.

Obviously the club can’t just entirely stop looking to the future, but all this energy should have been directed to the January window to ensure that we stay in the Premier League.

But alas, midfield isn’t an area of the pitch that is particularly in need of strengthening either. Especially not ahead of the striker attacking positions, so it’s just more bad decision making by those in charge.
