Jordan Pickford contract talks stall with Everton Premier League status uncertain
Talks with Jordan Pickford over a new Everton contract have not stalled due to the player’s salary demands, according to the Liverpool ECHO.
The Toffees stopper is out of contract in 2024 and is yet to agree terms on a new deal to extend his stay at Goodison Park, with reports suggesting that his salary demands were too high.
However the Echo have moved to clarify these reports, and claim they have been told those reports are “categorically untrue”, with the club’s Premier League status the actual reason for no agreement yet.

“Jordan Pickford remains settled at Everton and talks over a new contract have not stalled over his salary demands,” they wrote (12 February).
“Pickford’s current deal expires in the summer of 2024 and reports this weekend claimed that there is a pay dispute between him and Goodison Park chiefs but club insiders insist this is categorically not true and the ECHO understands that talks have simply been deferred while Everton’s Premier League status is uncertain.”
Obvious
It seemed to be pretty clear that Pickford isn’t desperate to leave the club, otherwise he would have pushed for a transfer last summer or even in January like Anthony Gordon did.
The fact he didn’t suggests that he wants to stay in an ideal world, but he obviously can’t commit to years on end at the club in case we do get relegated.

It’s not a surprise that the England number one will likely look to leave the club if we get relegated, because he’s far too good not to be playing in the top tier.
However without Pickford signing a new deal at Everton, it means the club can’t be sure of his future either and they could be forced to accept a cut-price deal as he has just one year remaining on his deal when the window re-opens.
It’s going to be a hugely tough summer to come up with answers to all the questions and problems, but at least we know where we stand with this situation right now.
