Sean Dyche desperate for new Jordan Pickford contract at Everton as £5m-a-year reveal emerges

Sean Dyche wants Everton to prioritise offering a new contract to goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, according to newspaper journalist Alan Nixon.

Writing via his Patreon page on Sunday (12 February), Nixon reported that Dyche wants to keep the 28-year-old as his number-one goalkeeper at Goodison Park.

It is understood that Pickford is attracting attention from elsewhere while the England international’s current £5million-a-year contract expires at the end of next season.

Nixon adds that Everton will need to avoid relegation from the Premier League to finalise a new contract for the former Sunderland goalkeeper but Dyche is “desperate” to ensure he stays on Merseyside for years to come.

Get it done

Everton need to get this done as soon as possible.

While relegation from the Premier League is still a possibility, it’s less of a possibility under Dyche’s leadership and there should be some confidence about getting a deal completed if a relegation release clause is tied in.

Everton should easily be able to go to Pickford and offer him a highly-incentivised contract that sees him earn bonuses for avoiding relegation and includes a release clause where he can leave Goodison Park for a certain fee if we do go down.

We’re pretty confident that under Dyche, that won’t happen and if the board offer that to Pickford, it’ll also show that they’re confident it won’t happen.

Pickford is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and while he does have a mistake in him every now and then, he’s one of the big reasons why we’re not in the Championship already and also why England have enjoyed a strong few years with Gareth Southgate.

It’d be stupid to let him run down that contract and let him join a Premier League rival.

Our only issue is that we cannot guarantee European football, whereas other teams in this league can.
