Simon Jordan predicts ‘massive’ result in Everton clash v Liverpool in Merseyside Derby

Simon Jordan believes that a draw would be a “massive result” for Everton in their Merseyside Derby clash with Liverpool on Monday night.

The Toffees claimed a win last time out against league leaders Arsenal in Sean Dyche’s first game in charge, and now set to take on their struggling local rivals at Anfield in a game that could see them climb out of the relegation zone with a win.

But Jordan, speaking live on talkSPORT on the morning of the game (13 February), claimed that the “massive” advantage of Goodison Park not being available to them means Liverpool should still pick up the win.

“The game tonight, they don’t have the Goodison crowd behind them Everton,” he said.

“So that’s a massive advantage that they had against Arsenal. And this is a different dynamic. This is Merseyside Derby.

“Liverpool will be ready for the game. I suspect that Liverpool will bounce and come back at this game in a different vein of form than they were against Wolves.

“But I don’t, I think a massive result for Everton would be a draw. I expect Liverpool to win this game because irrespective of the Dyche effect, and irrespective of what they did against Arsenal, Liverpool have seen that.”

Hard work

The thing that Dyche said last week that stuck out the most was that “the minimum requirement was maximum effort”.

That is something that Everton fans have been begging to hear for what feels like years, because there has been no sense of pride in the team for a long time barring that short period under Frank Lampard at the end of last season.

Everton

Liverpool have been poor in recent weeks and the Toffees have got the momentum and the quality to punish them if they perform to their best.

That is what we need to do, and Jordan is correct that a draw would absolutely be a positive result for us. But we have to go there with the mentality of trying to win the game otherwise we’ll get beaten.

It’s all set to be a great game and with the added incentive of getting out of the relegation zone with a win because of the weekend results, the players should be raring to go regardless of the stadium they’re playing in.
