Neal Maupay Everton career could be over before it starts after Sean Dyche snub v Liverpool

Neal Maupay could well be at the end of his Everton career before it ever really began after he was snubbed by Sean Dyche against Liverpool.

The French striker has seemingly been relegated to third-choice striker at Goodison Park since the new manager entered the fray, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin starting in the win over Arsenal and youngster Ellis Simms surprisingly installed against Liverpool.

While it’s only been two games this could certainly be too early of a shout, but if this is a pattern that is to continue for the final part of the season then his future could well lay elsewhere.

Calvert-Lewin’s injury problems at the club are no doubt a major issue that needs to be addressed in the summer, because the England international simply can’t be relied upon to be the number one striker at the club over the course of a season.

It was believed that Maupay was brought in exactly for that purpose by Frank Lampard, and he started the vast majority of games that Calvert-Lewin was unavailable for.

He has only managed one goal so far this season however, coming in his second appearance against West Ham. He’s now gone 15 games without a goal for the Toffees, and that has opened the door for Simms to take his spot.

Granted the youngster struggled badly against Liverpool and was brought off after an hour, but the fact he was given the nod shows the faith that Dyche has in him.

He’s likely to get more chances to prove himself other than against world class centre-backs at Anfield, and that means less opportunities for Maupay.

Less opportunities mean he will be less happy about being at the club, and there is every chance that he looks to leave in the summer regardless of whether or not Everton manage to achieve survival in the Premier League.

His career at Goodison never really got started because of the horrendous results and poor form, and now it may never get the chance to if he is to leave in the summer.
